It’s going to be my honor and my pleasure to speak on behalf of a full-service Center for those who are homeless at the City Council meeting in Anaheim. One of the most exciting things about the issue before the Anaheim City Council is that it will move forward a collaborative move among Anaheim, Fullerton, and Orange County to work on eliminating homelessness as a societal issue. We know that as unitarian Universalists we are called to stand with the people in our communities that need assistance in order to live fully - to surmount poverty, but it can be lonely work if we believe we must do it alone. I sometimes feel like a “voice crying in the wilderness” when I ask for the larger society to answer the call that speaks to my heart. So it is a great joy [and in some ways a great relief] to know that there are many others out there who hear the same call even if they don’t call themselves Unitarian Universalist.
It is incumbent upon all of us to seek out the allies in our midst, to blend our voices together, and to bend the moral arc of the universe toward justice! We always have the work before us - so let’s not do it alone!
In the meantime, may you
